So far I have survived a transplant, COVID, and a presidential election. Frankly, not sure there is so much for which to be thankful, I can hardly contain myself. But still...there are a lot of things that seem completely out of sane and needing discussed and I am sad to admit, there aren't many people left with the audacity and spinal integrity to do so. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Well...I'm back.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">In this blog mess I plan to talk politics again, pop culture, state and local government, federal government, and yes...some will be offended and be forced to hide in their "safe place." Which, apparently, is a thing now. Safe place...what the hell has happened to us?</p><p style="text-align: justify;">There is also a lot of good going on these days that isn't covered by the news and to be honest, the Internet and other blogs like this will be the only place you hear about it all. Why? Because media today is bought and sold to the highest bidder and the highest bidder is to whom the media pays the most attention. But we can't really blame them, can we? Gotta pay the bills just like everyone else, right? I think that is how we have to consume the mainstream and even not-so-mainstream media. We go into it knowing that the stories are often skewed from a perspective that the bills have to be paid.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I recall a time when I was on WKY when there was what most would consider to be a pretty significant news story, but we were told not to cover it because it happened to involve the family of a major advertiser. So, yes. It happens even in local talk radio (a long since extinct creature itself).</p><p style="text-align: justify;">So, be prepared, kids. I will give you some news and obviously slanted news with my creative thought processes to go along with the mess. You get to decide how much is from my big mouth and how much is actually hard news.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Let's do this, shall we?</p>Ron Blackhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09091386674467296305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34278318.post-57849296043235053932018-05-16T14:30:00.002-05:002018-05-16T14:30:59.542-05:00Part 3: Up To Date<div style="text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSD1Ag6Uxsy0W7qYvzOZscEw_QK63QdAMEJqQpEGo3Q6zUaxUiCPFL6kcEj8jN1mCiyocN9XovWIscLAdUI_iR4vqZzQ6nCdfXQtueZ8kUKEXwg3VzaEbBzjz6FfdS82Lxlm9A/s1600/PO6079382-front-CU.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="505" data-original-width="504" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSD1Ag6Uxsy0W7qYvzOZscEw_QK63QdAMEJqQpEGo3Q6zUaxUiCPFL6kcEj8jN1mCiyocN9XovWIscLAdUI_iR4vqZzQ6nCdfXQtueZ8kUKEXwg3VzaEbBzjz6FfdS82Lxlm9A/s320/PO6079382-front-CU.png" width="319" /></a></div>
It was merely a week after my transplant that I was discharged from the hospital and sent home. That week included exercise, pain management, meetings with doctors and pharmacists, and yes, a bit of anxiety. At first, I thought that one week out from the transplant may have been a bit early because I was still exceedingly weak and required assistance to just walk around the room or to go to the restroom. But, the doctors knew best and I was discharged with an arm full of medications, instructions, warnings, and even a good dose of encouragement.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Arriving home was surreal. I had been gone for a month and while it was home, I saw it in a new light. I saw home as a sanctuary; a place to heal and a place to get my head and my spirit right for what was to come. The process of healing from a transplant can be pretty arduous and there are a multitude of things to remember. Fortunately, there is actually a handbook that I can refer to upon occasion to refresh my marginally depleted memory.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first day home, I got comfortable on the couch and then decided to try and make it to the bathroom. I was issued a walker so I tried to use it to help me stand up but my legs were so weak that I just collapsed on the carpet like a rag doll. I couldn't get up but somehow I found the humor in it and began laughing. "Oh, how the mighty have fallen," is what I muttered under my breath, followed by a brief prayer, informing God that I "got it," that I see that humility was going to be my friend and humility and I would become very close over the next few weeks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Carolyn helped me up and eventually, I made it to the bathroom, but not without pain and frustration. I confess that the level of pain was astronomical and nothing seemed to work to curb it. There were moments when I thought that there was something severely wrong, but was reassured by my transplant team and my wife that what I was experiencing was normal; I had just had major, major surgery and it would take a while to get back to the "new normal." </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've had occupational therapy, physical therapy, and have tried to stay as active as I could as the pain subsides and affords me the opportunity for mobility. I've even overdone it a couple times only to be set back a couple days in terms of progress as a result. But with each passing day, I could see and feel myself getting stronger and able to walk without the aid of a walker. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQExsnkacCuqFAz8pyUXnMDDKh6Z3sB9vCzFNEQUSMeiSuSsfMD9u0yySfM0z2WwJcn81N_-vjYdhU8qQQQ_a5WvsgUPVHRUh4y6GIQ0zDL09m7q7C15t-lFaeNoV_iG2A2tLI/s1600/30652423_10212453103822186_3868061578435756032_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="960" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQExsnkacCuqFAz8pyUXnMDDKh6Z3sB9vCzFNEQUSMeiSuSsfMD9u0yySfM0z2WwJcn81N_-vjYdhU8qQQQ_a5WvsgUPVHRUh4y6GIQ0zDL09m7q7C15t-lFaeNoV_iG2A2tLI/s200/30652423_10212453103822186_3868061578435756032_n.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
There have been some emotional sticky places as well. They usually take place when pain is almost unbearable and my frustration hits the roof. I admit that I questioned why I had received the miracle of a second chance when clearly, I wasn't up to the task. Somehow, I've made it through thus far. I've continued to fight and push towards the goal of being self-sufficient completely. My kids were at the hospital with me and spent a great deal of time with me but now, the routine is back in play and I don't get to see them; particularly Heather and Matt who live out of state. My youngest two are working and schedules are a bugger. Makes it a little tough, but thank God for FaceTime. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have some friends who have been unbelievable through this process and they deserve a shout-out to say the least. Steven and Jen Jones have been there by my side at the hospital and have been regular visitors to the Gorilla's Cave since I came home. Jen underwent a double lung transplant a couple years ago so, we're kindred spirits of sorts. Many of the things I experience now, she once did as well. They have been a blessing beyond measure and I can't adequately describe how much it means to me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even my sisters-in-law flew up from California to be here with me, to make sure I don't do anything stupid and to ensure I stay on target and on track. Debbie and Sandy are two truly remarkable women who have been selfless and caring to a goofball like me. <br />
<br />
To all of you who have sent your prayers and well-wishes my direction, and those who have paid me a visit, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you and your kindness.<br />
<br />
Now, the battle rages on.<br />

</tbody></table>
When I was wheeled into the operating room, the last visual was that of my family and friends, all cheering me on and hopeful that all would be good. I admitted to everyone there that I was scared beyond description; no room for pride or shame at that point. They understood and were very encouraging. The last thing I remember about the operating room was being transferred to the table and the anesthesiologist telling me that he was injecting the anesthesia into my IV. <br />
<br />
I have a great deal to be thankful for. My family, the surgeons, and all of the doctors involved in my transplant. They are amazing people with incredible God-given talent and they saved my life. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The next series of events are a blur because I was pretty heavily medicated and it was tough to distinguish between what was real and what was imagined. I do remember waking up with a respirator, a catheter, and some weird tube thing that went down into my stomach. I was a bit panicked because for a few moments, I couldn't remember why I was there. I also remember a 7' tall, German woman named "Hilda" standing at the foot of my bed laughing and making jokes with me about my health and circumstances. <br />
<br />
It was bizarre.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8pE4CWw4BEUdjsBWUzz10d0R0WB3dtRoMz8CFmn7PTTuA9t2ByfkI1GDkUl9xYrH6ytYidLdANjJ4xNini74DdTIsK3Tsa6BYiZE7kXQaIB__xWsva-w15aWKTBoenP5WD3jk/s1600/kids+hospital.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="720" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8pE4CWw4BEUdjsBWUzz10d0R0WB3dtRoMz8CFmn7PTTuA9t2ByfkI1GDkUl9xYrH6ytYidLdANjJ4xNini74DdTIsK3Tsa6BYiZE7kXQaIB__xWsva-w15aWKTBoenP5WD3jk/s320/kids+hospital.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Apparently, I tried to take out the respirator but the nurse stopped me and at one point, I made the decision to follow my wife into the hallway of ICU and succeeded in ripping out an IV. I don't remember it at all, but I do remember the blood stains all over the sheets and my blanket. I was told later that they had to restrain me because I was being, well, bull-headed and determined to get out of the bed. I was also informed that I wouldn't believe them when they told me that I had made it through transplant surgery. I didn't believe that I had received a transplant so quickly and that I had survived. <br />
<br />
When I began to gather my wits to some degree, I realized that I had actually received a transplant and that the events of the previous days were not imagined, but real. The hallucinations stemmed from the fact that I was loaded with steroids from the procedure and the different types of pain medications contributed to my confusion. Yes, I was confused and bewildered. At times, I felt like I was in a video game like MW3 and trying to identify spies and enemy infiltrators.<br />
<br />
Drugs are bad, mmmkay?<br />
<br />
The staff at Integris are phenomenal. The ICU is intense and the nurses are exceedingly professional and business-like without losing a personal touch. The nurses and staff on the floor I was transferred to (7 East) were like angels. They explained what had happened, what to expect, and the plans for my eventual discharge. They fully explained the milestones that needed to be reached, they were responsive to my questions and concerns and I have to tell you, they made me feel as though I was in good hands. And I was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2C9eoLrJ61eCLsvE82Cywm0sIG__8yM_6nib-XXyZk4rrh4XFnGszvYDe1St_btlZlKqHRksAcg5fMnH1VgPvYTAXCVL9OMHckHqn4T81GZGkQ9x2s0SbRbbRt_QP2vtqgMLK/s1600/ron+and+carolyn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2C9eoLrJ61eCLsvE82Cywm0sIG__8yM_6nib-XXyZk4rrh4XFnGszvYDe1St_btlZlKqHRksAcg5fMnH1VgPvYTAXCVL9OMHckHqn4T81GZGkQ9x2s0SbRbbRt_QP2vtqgMLK/s200/ron+and+carolyn.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
My wife was a champ; overseeing the madness that had ensued and scheduling folks to come stay with me (I wasn't supposed to be alone) and make sure I didn't fall or anything. She stayed on top of the medication questions, she developed a plan for after-care, and she is nothing short of phenomenal. I am blessed beyond measure to have such a wonderful human being in my life. She has been able to juggle her work, my issues, and keeping everyone on track and she does so gladly. She is a giving spirit, a kind soul of which you don't meet every day and I'm proud and humbled that she is my wife. <br />
<br />
My kids were all there except for my oldest who plans to come out to visit within the next couple months. It was a revelatory experience and each day brings new insight and a different perspective on life itself. <br />
<br />
Of course, I will share those with you too.<br />
<br />
Until next time...<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoYDfim9_bweCGlLh1s2-Tyz9k-67oEtSN-4VXU8rDGEbxSxXDv7muK4_Jsn5AShAo31Ezb33QUqfrhZw4Eq-6mbnWJD89f_wkATxIEkt88Z8dlkNXU2VQihstQ3HIFy5Zx6zr/s1600/31687395_2831806006845105_3910846427730804736_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="337" data-original-width="474" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoYDfim9_bweCGlLh1s2-Tyz9k-67oEtSN-4VXU8rDGEbxSxXDv7muK4_Jsn5AShAo31Ezb33QUqfrhZw4Eq-6mbnWJD89f_wkATxIEkt88Z8dlkNXU2VQihstQ3HIFy5Zx6zr/s320/31687395_2831806006845105_3910846427730804736_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I went to the hospital for a routine procedure that was to take a couple hours. It was late in the afternoon and I remember the beige decor of the room as I headed out on the hospital bed. Once in the procedure room, the doctors moved quickly; like a well-oiled machine. Next thing I know, I'm out like a light.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What was to be a 2-hour procedure took much longer and it was evident that something had gone wrong. I was informed that the procedure had complications and that I had bled profusely, requiring 8 units of blood. The doctors had been on the phone with my wife who was on her way and informed her that I might not make it. She informed them she was 15 minutes out and the doctor told her that I might not make it that long.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My liver had been in far worse condition than we anticipated and the aggregate result was that I was put on the transplant list immediately. My skin color had begun to change, my eyes were yellowing as what was left of my liver was trying desperately to function. The doctors informed my wife, my family, and me that I would be staying in the hospital until aa transplant would take place. What normally takes months was going to be attempted within a few days.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The impossible was about to become a reality.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first liver offer didn't come through because the liver wasn't a fit. Disappointed, I figured that it would be days before another would come through. Literally, within hours, two more offers for livers come forth and while the second didn't work out, the third did. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was wheeled down to the area outside of the operating room, surrounded by family and friends as they cheered me on. An impromptu chant of, "Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose" came forth and made the nurses laugh. The last thing I remember about the operating room was that it was very white and clean. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I woke up, the room was completely different. Rather than the beige curtains and decor, it was crimson. For a moment, I thought that I had been transferred to OU hospital or something. Tubes ran in and out of me, helping me to breathe, to get rid of waste, and to keep stuff out of my stomach. It was a shocking experience. When I was informed that I had a transplant, I didn't believe it and was sure that everyone was lying to me. The meds were working hardcore.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was in the intensive care unit, by the way. I was in good hands. The whole staff on the transplant team are amazing people. Kind and caring, I can't imagine a more prepared team.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There's a lot more to the story and I plan to share it with you over the next few days. I want you to walk away from this piece is that the impossible became possible for me and it can for you too. I didn't know if I believed in miracles in the sense that regular guys like me can be touched by the Almighty, but today, I do. How everything took place, the timeline, the availability of transplant donors, and the miraculous way how an unquestionably difficult surgery was completed were all evidence of the presence and mercy of the Creator. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
More to follow.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGsq_zcPgYkwGo2OggWtvom5TF9FCcv88E9CoF-xk71iek-GRDhYW8gRbujVGN2ZwPglkcGsLcOS3v_oxm4UUCzTJber8kgBCSV1dT4b6NzOUu0dMFlvOvFp8UbJ8URt-7FFWi/s1600/sexy-teacher-with-apple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="448" data-original-width="329" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGsq_zcPgYkwGo2OggWtvom5TF9FCcv88E9CoF-xk71iek-GRDhYW8gRbujVGN2ZwPglkcGsLcOS3v_oxm4UUCzTJber8kgBCSV1dT4b6NzOUu0dMFlvOvFp8UbJ8URt-7FFWi/s320/sexy-teacher-with-apple.jpg" width="235" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"The explanation requiring the fewest assumptions is most likely to be correct." The theory of Occam's Razor applies here in the great state of Oklahoma where teacher pay is concerned. Yes, it is a fact that our teachers are morbidly underpaid and deserve more than what they are getting in terms of compensation as well as respect. This being the case, I believe that our indifferent legislature has an answer right at the fingertips but are frightened to touch it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The bottom line: Our administrative costs are too high in public education. It's time to reduce the number of school superintendents and consolidate their respective district administrative functions. Seriously...why does Oklahoma City need like 6 of them? The answer is that it's not necessary. And no, I'm not talking about consolidating schools so the rural districts can ease up on the panic that somehow their schools will lose their identity. That kind of thinking reminds me of the Dillon Panthers from Friday Night Lights. It's ridiculous and the time is now for real, demonstrative change in how we educate our kids and how we pay for said education.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyone who tells you that we can't consolidate administrative functions is flat-out lying or they have kissed a final farewell to their minds. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Courage. It requires courage to lead and it requires courage to do the right thing by our students. Enough is enough. Teachers don't need to go on strike; they need the legislature to do right by them and develop some testicular fortitude. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong. But I seriously doubt it.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
First, congratulations to former State Senator David Holt for his victory yesterday. He is a young face who claims to have new ideas but also wants to ensure that the projects for the city that Mayor Mick started are seen through to fruition. Basically, that means for the first couple years, he's going to be another Chamber lap dog. But right now, there is a legitimate argument that it may not be a bad thing. Sure, we are missing out on a lot of concerts to Tulsa because of the supposed "Thunder game conflict," but Holt may be the cat to change that. He won with a significant percentage of the one (79%) and that is, to me, a mandate. He has a lot of work ahead of him and while we all wish him the best, we'll still be watching.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
While at the hospital yesterday going through the initial screening process for transplant eligibility, I had an interested political conversation with someone who was genuinely concerned for the immediate future of the country with a guy like Donald Trump as our POTUS. I listened intently as I found myself agreeing with her on many levels. First, I agree that the pro-Trump movement was just as much an anti-Hillary movement. People in this country were terrified of what Hillary could have brought to the table and the Benghazi disaster still looms large in the minds of veterans and those who are currently serving in the armed forces. Second, Hillary came off as shrill and cunning whereas Trump just comes across as arrogant and not intelligent enough to truly be cunning. Lastly, the fear of Trump's ego is becoming a reality whether we want to believe it to be so or not. He's a loose cannon and has pushed the envelope where international diplomacy is concerned. He needs lessons on being a statesman, not a blowhard.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I began the process of transplant eligibility yesterday and while the meetings were long and informative, I felt a bit overwhelmed. I'm not jumping the proverbial shark here, but I consider it to be a huge blessing to even be considered for transplant. It's a long and strikingly action-packed process. Liver transplants are particularly weird because you only have one and if your liver fails, everything shuts down. The counselors at Baptist were kind, caring, and I am in good hands with them and with my wife as my primary caregiver. It's going to be a long process, as I have said, and it could take weeks or even months to get on the list and with the amount of testing that is still left to be done, it's very possible I could be disqualified from the list. One never knows, but I suppose this is where faith comes in handy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll keep you posted.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Pd_UG9hW4LPfKNqRMjvX_Xpin_2-OhoO5LM4HBZfLTuiWZWO5REcpv4XN4rl9s_t5BBu68-_hsDE2lZKDOyq4s_z5OYQvMNPIyC2Dv_Qe4SwoE_qFFdqRAWKubyv3AFq1yOU/s1600/koko_gorilla_and_tabby_kitten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="634" data-original-width="594" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Pd_UG9hW4LPfKNqRMjvX_Xpin_2-OhoO5LM4HBZfLTuiWZWO5REcpv4XN4rl9s_t5BBu68-_hsDE2lZKDOyq4s_z5OYQvMNPIyC2Dv_Qe4SwoE_qFFdqRAWKubyv3AFq1yOU/s200/koko_gorilla_and_tabby_kitten.jpg" width="186" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I sat in the emergency room wearing one of those wickedly uncomfortable and highly exposing gowns as the room spun around me. The causal factor for my visit was a bout of throwing up blood and lightheadedness. I had no clue what was wrong, but I knew that blood is supposed to be inside the body, not outside the body. What I was told next terrified me and made me almost pass out.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Either that, or the morphine for pain was taking over.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The doctor was a short man, his accent making his dialog difficult to understand but a few words stood out to me and caused me to break out in tears.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"You have about three years left, Mr. Black," he said. This was in 2012.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had been diagnosed with fatty liver disease that had developed into cirrhosis. Ironically, it was a result of diabetes and not alcohol consumption but devastating news nonetheless. From that point forward, my life was different in just about every way. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I changed my diet, changed much of my lifestyle, and did everything that the doctors told me to and now, I've outlived that emergency room doctors prediction. So, there. It's been a hell of a ride and I never imagined for a moment that I would be dealing with issues such as chronic pain and gastrointestinal issues on a daily basis. It took months, but the result was that a balance was struck between medications and dietary changes. Hell, I even eat turkey burgers now. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was informed last week that the process could begin to get me on the national transplant list but that process is long and tedious. I'm plenty healthy right now and pretty doggone functional most of the time. I have good days and I have bad days, but overall, every day is looked at as a gift; a moment of grace extended to me by the Creator to let me hang around with you folks for another day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have my wife to thank for her immeasurable patience and as this process continues, a year from now, I may have a new liver and for that, I'm pretty tickled but scared at the same time. She's been there to reassure me and lift me up when I am emotionally drained. I also have to thank my bandmates for their support too. There have been rehearsals after procedures where I had to sit the whole time and just take it easy and they are completely understanding. I have some of the best friends a man could ever get and I feel very undeserving at times. Nevertheless, I'm thankful. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have plenty of time left so don't freak out; I just wanted to share a little bit of what I'm going through and maybe y'all are feeling it too or no someone struggling as well. It's not over, the fight rages on and we've completely got this. I'm even blessed with the energy to perform with my band on weekends and entertain some wonderful people. Life may be painful at times, but it is very, very good.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now, you're caught up to speed and you know how it began. I'll probably share more as it progresses so you can see the difficulty accompanying the whole transplant process. It's going to be a fun trip. Buckle up!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is going to be a hectic, yet fun week ahead. Doctors appointments, production of a new edition of Gorilla Bytes Podcast, and a wicked gig on Friday at CeeGee's in Edmond with my band (<a href="http://www.151band.com/" target="_blank">151 Band</a>). It's crazy, but like most of us, I recognize the blessing that it is.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This week, we'll be facing the ramifications of the government "shut down," and frankly, many aren't going to like my opinion in the matter. First, I don't think it's the Democrats who are to blame completely, nor do I believe that it is the President's fault. Both parties are proving that there is a leadership vacuum of Biblical proportions. Second, it proves that career politicians who are entrenched in the process of bureaucracy need to be sent home this November. Lastly, I plan on talking about this in depth on this week's podcast. It's a mess no matter how you look at it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What do you think is going to happen in the State Legislature in Oklahoma this year? Already, we've seen some silliness in bills being filed like the one by Nathan Dahm declaring that all wildlife is the property of God. Yes, you read that right. We need legislation, apparently, on what most of us knew in Sunday school class by the time we were 5 years old, but Senator Dahm who claims to be a freedom legislator, is trying to pull off a nanny state theocracy coup with this rhetoric. How about Dahm take some time and do some good for the state of Oklahoma - including taking care of the "least among us." Certainly, there will be more self-righteous pandering going on and don't be surprised if you don't see Pastor Paul Blair running for office again but in another district than where he ran before. He's hungry and wants to be a legislator because apparently, being a pastor is boring.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be talking more about the gubernatorial race on this week's podcast and I'll take a look at the Democrats who are running; though it's more of an exercise in ego-building because this red state won't be electing a Democrat for Governor anytime soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, these are just my opinions and I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.</div>

2017 wasn't really that bad, was it? New POTUS, new fighting words between the U.S. and North Korea, the State of Oklahoma's budget disasters, the resignation of elected officials, and of course, the indictments of elected officials in Oklahoma. Okay, perhaps it was a little on the hairy side, but I think if we're smart (and I know that we're not), we'll see the lessons learned from 2017.<br />
<br />
First, I think that the GOP has learned that electing a reality TV guy as POTUS wasn't necessarily the smartest thing we could have done. Granted, the alternative was a frightening specter of death, but damn. We really should have known better.<br />
<br />
Second, in Oklahoma we have come to the start realization that there are folks who run for office because it would be the best job they've ever had and a little bit of power and prestige goes a long way to polluting the mind. Hell, in some cases, it seems to have rotted a few souls along the way and many lives will never be the same.<br />
<br />
Third, one would hope we have learned our lesson regarding sexual harassment. Touchy-grabby-feely is not a good thing in the workplace and some folks are paying the price for their indiscretions. Finally. And then there's the whole Roy Moore thing...God help us.<br />

2018 does look to be an exciting year, for me, anyways. I'm kicking off the Gorilla Bytes Podcast where I'll be ranting regularly about politics, pop culture, music, and maybe even the plight of the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo. In other words, it's pretty much going to be whatever I'm feeling at the time and frankly, it will be unbridled and aggressive. I'll definitely be talking about the upcoming elections and which candidates I like and which I believe are douchebags. It'll be fun.<br />
<br />
This is the year, I hope, that I can get on the transplant waiting list for my liver. That would be nice. <br />
<br />
Mid-term elections also give us a chance to thin the herd and perhaps rid ourselves of bureaucrats and life-long elected dingleberries. One can hope.<br />
<br />
No matter what, 2018 will be what we make it. Success and happiness isn't dependent upon a lack of turmoil, but rather can be found in the midst of our actions to handle that turmoil. Let's make it a good year.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Getting ready for a series for the <a href="https://soundcloud.com/gorillabytes" target="_blank">Gorilla Bytes</a> podcast, I started making notes and realized that I have enough material for all of 2018. There's the state legislature, the never-ending Twitter madness of the POTUS, Governor Fallin's veto power, the gubernatorial race, the Lt. Governor race, and the insanity that has become the Veteran's Administration are all ripe for the picking. I plan to do a lot of picking.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The state legislature, for example, have only had marginal media scrutiny and the story behind the story has been missed by most MSM outlets; and that includes some of the programming that is supposed to be local talk. I've been gathering research data and what I've found so far shouldn't be too much of a surprise, but it all begins with campaign contributions and the power of lobbyists who hang out at the capitol like vultures. It's all fair game as far as I am concerned and I'm getting ready to jump back into the fray with a vengeance.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't think, however, that politics will be the only thing I discuss. I will be talking pop culture, the Oklahoma music scene, food, relationships, a little sports, and of course local and national events. I will be sharing with you some of the details of my life as well; including what it's like to have to wait to be put on a liver transplant list, how to deal with chronic pain, and even my short bouts of depression as a result of all of the above. I'll be candid, open, and probably a little more transparent than you could expect and since my hands won't be tied by stupid FCC regulations on free speech, you may even hear a little colorful language as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I promise you:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>1. I will pull no punches.</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>2. I will go after asshats regardless of political party affiliation.</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>3. I'll ask the hard questions.</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>4. I will keep it lively and challenging.</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i><br /></i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are a few logistical issues to deal with, but I should have those completed and put to bed by the end of next week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Buckle your seatbelt, kids...it's going to be a wild ride.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4VT2bHNQn3Ed5VCjGVdEZJxoT_xjsOejeGVDrQvju2CrnLQfp74KLMytpP1-TAmolZ0iDWTxkPLgLqOzCxbDMlKerKLTEF57CIp4QbCaGL38FJzxVI5PMTY6LX46uVncE0g8r/s1600/boycrazy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="390" data-original-width="584" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4VT2bHNQn3Ed5VCjGVdEZJxoT_xjsOejeGVDrQvju2CrnLQfp74KLMytpP1-TAmolZ0iDWTxkPLgLqOzCxbDMlKerKLTEF57CIp4QbCaGL38FJzxVI5PMTY6LX46uVncE0g8r/s320/boycrazy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's hard to say when it was that the legislature in Oklahoma lost its collective mind, but predicated on the news of the last few months, it's clear that they are in desperate need of Prozac at the very least. Not one, but two special sessions will be the history for this legislature and a massive failure to do that for which they were elected proves them to be some of the most incompetent elected officials in the history of this great state. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And then, it got weird.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Legislators have been in the news for everything from child sex trafficking to campaign finance blunders. There were cases that were settled out of court for sexual harassment and then there was the Governor's staffer busted for taking "up skirt" photographs. What in the hell has happened to these people? It would be easy to say that all of the construction down there caused some type of bizarre chemical reaction in their brains, but that's just not the case. The truth of the matter is that there is a power struggle and tussling for future campaigns for higher office.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My suggestion is that you take note right now and if they are term-limited, let them go and do not vote for them for higher office or a different office. If they are not term-limited, find a decent candidate whose life's goal isn't to be called "Senator" or "Representative." Find someone the founding fathers called a "citizen legislator."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Don't you think that the people of Oklahoma deserve just a little bit better than what we're dealing with now? Are we paying some type of cosmic retribution for electing a church camp counselor to the U.S. Senate? The questions are endless...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Starting after the first of the year, I'll be back broadcasting via podcast and thanks to my son, Matthew Black, and my friend, Kaye Beach, I've decided it's time for the Gorilla to rattle more cages and hold some feet to the fire. And yes, it will be weird, strange, fun, and will address a whole hell of a lot more than the clown act that is the Oklahoma Legislature.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

You'll be hearing from me again real soon.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
There was a time when the GOP referred to the Democratic Party as the "Tax and Spend Party." To the average voter, it looks like the GOP was jealous of such branding and have taken it on for themselves. This is evident by the increase of taxes including; fuel tax, gross production tax, tax on tobacco, and finally (of course) increased taxes on booze. As this happens, we see this mass exodus of Republican "lawmakers" taking better paying jobs with the Feds and other government teats. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is the same party that once said that welfare was a bad thing, but corporate welfare is okay and being a perpetual burden on the taxpayers as long as you're elected and not terribly poor. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back in the days of WKY, I remember talking frequently about the reality that for most elected officials, it is the best job they will ever have and that holds true today. The concept of being a "citizen legislature" has given way to the disturbing influx of Political Science majors who are beginning to show their lack of "real world" experience. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But I digress.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7IC282nQoxayrM_Nbkl8aMjvcnI4sA6p5kQaRj9yQd8pN4eXtXJE5OupvnqJ7CpZscZJdVRxrMBYQWM79eA5Gs95D4GjLb4fNi54zcBnJZC8kcEd-0WtNqeqZiU0eLtOQmyVF/s1600/Chris-Christie-Doesnt-Get-It-REUTERSJonathan-Ernst--640x480.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7IC282nQoxayrM_Nbkl8aMjvcnI4sA6p5kQaRj9yQd8pN4eXtXJE5OupvnqJ7CpZscZJdVRxrMBYQWM79eA5Gs95D4GjLb4fNi54zcBnJZC8kcEd-0WtNqeqZiU0eLtOQmyVF/s200/Chris-Christie-Doesnt-Get-It-REUTERSJonathan-Ernst--640x480.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Virginia, New Jersey, and even already liberal Washington State have seen a growth spurt in the number of Democratic elected officials and no one should really be surprised. As Cal Thomas once said, "If Republicans are going to act like Democrats, you might as well vote for Democrats because at least then you know what you're getting." There is a great deal of truth to that, you know. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Many will blame President Trump for the increase of elected Democrats, but in Oklahoma, the increase in taxes and the amount of fraud that is being uncovered by State Auditor Gary Jones leaves no one to blame but the Republican leadership. There was even questions about departments that were/are run by Lt. Governor Todd Lamb in terms of financial mismanagement. But yet, there are more and more career Republican politicians who are looking for more opportunities to suckle from the taxpayer teat by either running for higher office or finding a taxpayer-funded bureaucratic job.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And we used to think lobbyists were bad.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sure, there has been a lot of propaganda spewed about from both sides of the aisle regarding just how horrendous our budget situation is/was/will continue to be, but in the aggregate, our elected officials aren't losing any services. They are still getting their medical coverage, their retirement funds, their salaries (highest paid part-time legislators in the country, by the way), and in some cases, the opportunity to pocket some taxpayer funds until they are caught.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Neither party is perfect and the way they are acting does nothing but underscore the reality that third party candidates are becoming increasingly appealing to the disenfranchised voters as it is. But, there is still hope, my fellow Oklahomians. We simply have to be diligent and call a pig a pig. Ask hard questions of our elected officials and of those who desire to be elected officials and if they give us some bovine feces answer, call them out on social media and within your sphere of influence. We can change the direction of Oklahoma government. We just have to care enough to do so.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.</div>

Yes, I know; it's been a while since I've written anything but I've not been feeling at the top of my game but here I am now. What inspired me to open up the old blog-a-licious is the banter that has been tossed about by our candidates for Governor. There are quite a few of them (12), but I will focus this column primarily on a handful of them that I think are noteworthy at this time. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Let's roll up our sleeves and get nasty.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcnjimMJvAt3G3b1q9Ufo6jKFL6ooieFAObvTOLVyjFAqGzQ1Rd1xF6RhbSfngCLcaZJ6rEn8Ml3dgDE_VGg5JXuRWxzmn_tN8cLktBfl0i7v0U8EsBHSq-7V-218yBofhGqBr/s1600/DanFisher.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="637" data-original-width="637" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcnjimMJvAt3G3b1q9Ufo6jKFL6ooieFAObvTOLVyjFAqGzQ1Rd1xF6RhbSfngCLcaZJ6rEn8Ml3dgDE_VGg5JXuRWxzmn_tN8cLktBfl0i7v0U8EsBHSq-7V-218yBofhGqBr/s200/DanFisher.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Dan Fisher:</b> Former legislator who has apparently been smitten with the idea of becoming Oklahoma's next, and first, abortion abolitionist Governor. He probably learned how to cost taxpayers millions of dollars in legal fees over unconstitutional legislation while serving in the legislature, which explains why that is pretty much his platform right now. He has signs that say "audit everything" and that's kind of cute because there is a legitimate auditor in the race for Governor. <a href="https://fisherforgovernor.com/" target="_blank">Fisher</a> is a pastor and there are those who would argue that perhaps he has forgotten about the whole warnings to the Pharisees in Matthew 23 by running for office (again), but he is on a mission and like Jake and Elroy, he won't be stopped. More than likely, he'll end up with around 5% - 8-% of the vote during the primary. He's fun to watch though, that's for sure. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Gary Jones: </b> If memory serves me, Gary was one of the first to announce his candidacy and on paper, he's probably the most qualified candidate to handle the difficult task of reining in the legislature and get the budget fixed. Sadly, that is often not enough in the great state of Oklahoma to get you elected to a statewide or Congressional office. <a href="http://www.jonesok2018.com/" target="_blank">Jones is our State Auditor</a> and he has ruffled more than just a few feathers with some of his talk about streamlining the state government. He himself has accomplished it within the office of the Auditor, but not many other agencies have done so willingly and without duress. I've known Gary Jones for a number of years and he has always been an honest, upright man who doesn't shoot from the hip or shoot off his mouth for the sake of political blathering. He is exceptionally qualified for the job, but it's going to be the toughest race he will ever face since Lt. Governor Todd Lamb is running. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYjIboDTxz_L7pCWEGkFdhdkBTFEUyP0mfahpKAAgen3rYgk94uvHhB9xgcEHCv-hp2eURlrfTAgacYq2wdDqggpw1flW8JW2tYCFUPgjeKf2tuLzkCvolXavL1TOUfbpllJSx/s1600/LGLamb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="403" data-original-width="300" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYjIboDTxz_L7pCWEGkFdhdkBTFEUyP0mfahpKAAgen3rYgk94uvHhB9xgcEHCv-hp2eURlrfTAgacYq2wdDqggpw1flW8JW2tYCFUPgjeKf2tuLzkCvolXavL1TOUfbpllJSx/s200/LGLamb.jpg" width="148" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Todd Lamb:</b> There can be no doubt whatsoever that Todd Lamb is, by far, one of the most polished politicians in the state of Oklahoma. His service as <a href="https://votetoddlamb.com/" target="_blank">Lt. Governor has afforded him the opportunity to travel</a> around the state in a largely ceremonial role, but everywhere he goes, Lamb leaves a very positive impression. I meet him at an NRA banquet once and found him to be both genuine and knowledgable about state and local issues and he is a very dedicated family man (not to say that other candidates aren't). He's intelligent and he surprised everyone when he cut across the grain and made comments that were in disagreement with Governor Fallin's budget positions. Rumor has it that it angered much of the "Chamber crowd" and that there may be some question as to whether or not he can muster up a broad-based, centrist support system while pissing them off. Todd will more than likely lead the race in fundraising and I predict, as of today, he is the candidate to beat. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikQOCw7sVb4qd7YxtomAdNWlBlChKjO9mofXMvKrLaw2rLeYBe1tMKrgnpBqZo7-jXZlznDxelzRHdy2rpsOZTjBRzO8aw2bYvSmu278gZJnfBVv5uiH19Rfg_zlU_OcA8SMYf/s1600/Mayor_Mick_Cornett.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="355" data-original-width="336" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikQOCw7sVb4qd7YxtomAdNWlBlChKjO9mofXMvKrLaw2rLeYBe1tMKrgnpBqZo7-jXZlznDxelzRHdy2rpsOZTjBRzO8aw2bYvSmu278gZJnfBVv5uiH19Rfg_zlU_OcA8SMYf/s200/Mayor_Mick_Cornett.jpg" width="188" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Mick Cornett: </b> To say that I was shocked to hear that Mick was running for Governor would be putting it mildly. Mick boasts of the success he's had in the private sector with his business, but yet he likes being in the middle of the political fray. Mick has run for Congress in the past and he looked a little like a deer caught in the headlights, but more than likely, he has a different consulting group handling his race and getting him polished on state issues. His argument will be that he has brought the NBA to Oklahoma City and the success of the MAPS projects. But, how will those things play in Honobia Creek? Durant? Tulsa? Arnett? Ada? Rural Oklahoma is a significantly different animal than urban Oklahoma and his city charm may not play as well. He is a long shot, but to count Mick Cornett out of the race at this point would be rather goofy. He is a determined man who is dogged in achieving his goals. We shall see. [Note: He doesn't have a website for his campaign, but there is his <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mickcornett/" target="_blank">Facebook</a> page.]</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some very familiar names have announced their desire to be top dog in the state of Oklahoma and there are very few surprises, if any at all. Here are a few of my observations...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.garyrichardson.org/" target="_blank">Gary Richardson</a>, a Tulsa attorney and arch enemy of the Turnpike Authority, has decided that he's going to run as a Republican this time and his tactics thus far have been far different. He has been posting on social media a multitude of religious affections that will apparently appeal to the religious right in the state and that is a voting block important for the GOP that is as necessary as oxygen. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://votetoddlamb.com/" target="_blank">Lt. Governor Todd Lamb</a> is the odds-on favorite for the post because of his connections to Frank Keating and the "Chamber Establishment." He took a bold stand by separating himself from the desires of Governor Fallin to raise taxes to heal the budget wounds, and his staunch 2nd Amendment position in Oklahoma will help him a lot. He already has a massive war chest of over $1million and money will continue to pour in. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
State Auditor Gary Jones has also announced his intentions to run and to be frank, he's probably one of the best candidates out there to fix the problems we're facing as a state. He's a fiscal hawk and is not afraid to rock the boat where fraud and waste are concerned. It was Jones, after all, that revealed the waste with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office. The test will be whether or not Jones can secure some of the right wing votes as well as the establishment GOP that Lamb has secured.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBPKGCajyt1-zV_pRBKMNpMvkwI5dBSDizRV08CXP8YYo-xhKTaKAJ04UCBT4P35uo4Hv1RlcUyLy7iZ_uSrj-uZ2sp-wCgCXU6Xd5-2zsfNefBESiY0rab0eaj5P8VhsS1Iey/s1600/cornett.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBPKGCajyt1-zV_pRBKMNpMvkwI5dBSDizRV08CXP8YYo-xhKTaKAJ04UCBT4P35uo4Hv1RlcUyLy7iZ_uSrj-uZ2sp-wCgCXU6Xd5-2zsfNefBESiY0rab0eaj5P8VhsS1Iey/s320/cornett.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett has been rumored to be eyeing the Governor's Mansion, but it is still yet to be determined whether or not he can steal the Chamber money from Lamb. Cornett brought the NBA to Oklahoma City (at least that is what the electorate believes) and he's extremely popular in Oklahoma County. Could he get Tulsa County support? Maybe. Is he the guy to secure rural Oklahoma votes? No way.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On the Democratic side, Scott Inman is going to run. No. Just no. He doesn't stand a chance. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Former State Senator Connie Johnson is running as well, but again, no. She is way too far to the left to win statewide in Oklahoma, but someone has been telling her she can win. That person deserves to be taken out to the woodshed because she is going to take money and votes from Inman who has a better chance than Johnson; as slim as that may be.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some of the other madness I've been following:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Oklahoma City Mayoral race/non-race</b> is kind of fun at this stage too. County Commissioner Brian Maughan has announced and State Senator David Holt has also announced his desire to be the Mayor of Oklahoma City. Why either would want to take the pay cut is beyond me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Radio Shake Up</b> continues. KTOK let Jason Doyle go recently and it follows the trend that iHeart Media is trimming the sails so they can afford the syndicated programs for other stations such as KJ103 and the Ryan Seacrest show. Jason was the afternoon guy and I had the pleasure of sitting in with him for a show. He will be missed. He has been replaced by the station program director, Lee Matthews. Again. Further up the dial, KOKC 1520am is plugging along with their mix of local and syndicated programming, seeing their program director Tod Tucker at the helm for some air time. The market is ripe for radical change in talk radio and whomever jumps on the opportunity will profit. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBMHMOMtljmyMP9addZyaQMFZ31j_C30Q3JAPfAbzyHzv6dXGAFzskiw3vitkZCZ8zJkUy4Hxo2QpMrgrsIqTukQYltp_Kh3oe0lEEnMVe0NUBoySyullQQrePRBjf5_7LOKAI/s1600/supertalk_wky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBMHMOMtljmyMP9addZyaQMFZ31j_C30Q3JAPfAbzyHzv6dXGAFzskiw3vitkZCZ8zJkUy4Hxo2QpMrgrsIqTukQYltp_Kh3oe0lEEnMVe0NUBoySyullQQrePRBjf5_7LOKAI/s1600/supertalk_wky.jpg" /></a></div>
Do you remember when the Oklahoma legislature actually looked at a bill that would allow fighting chickens to fight if they wore little boxing gloves? Do you remember that? I was the afternoon drive guy on the station formerly known as Supertalk 930 WKY when it happened and at first, I thought it was a joke. Surely, the people of Oklahoma would never elect some idiot who is so desperate to keep cockfighting in the state that they would propose such lunacy?<br />
<br />
They did, and he did propose that silliness.<br />
<br />
Time has gone by and a lot has happened over the years. We have lost voices such as Mark Shannon and most recently, the legendary Mike McCarville; both of whom would have been all over the fact that our state budget is messed up and the only solution really presented thus far has been to increase taxes and fees statewide. While there is still a much more faint voice or two on the talk radio airwaves in Oklahoma, they are hardly strong enough to create real change and stop the flood of silliness. Hell, some of the voices helped get the idiots we're dealing with in the legislature get elected in the first place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhajisJl6Z-uHZ1C7ewsva0NhrVQ2ZnNh8XlJslLLFTy4PqH2L8ZneX5v4kcmdMJ5LKjIOUOWHQGr-FTVXrn9mZfL_j0H6KrxsEg9wLW_GlRwigHaViHOxvRWXf9etMTszI_bh-/s1600/anger.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhajisJl6Z-uHZ1C7ewsva0NhrVQ2ZnNh8XlJslLLFTy4PqH2L8ZneX5v4kcmdMJ5LKjIOUOWHQGr-FTVXrn9mZfL_j0H6KrxsEg9wLW_GlRwigHaViHOxvRWXf9etMTszI_bh-/s320/anger.png" width="320" /></a></div>
For many who are elected to work under the apparently brain-damaging methane gas-filled dome, something terrible takes over and what the taxpayers are left with are a bunch of dopplegangers who are up for auction to the highest bidder. Common sense and the "rule of law" is thrown out the window and sacrificed at the altar of self-righteous indulgence and egomaniacal emotional disorders. It's like there are a bunch of zealots who are trying to prove who is the most "righteous" and who is the most "caring." Forget about authoring legislation that will generate legitimate revenue, but rather the focus is on social ills and "feel good" policies that are little more than political masturbation.<br />
<br />
Silliness is the attitude of the day and until something changes in the media, we in Oklahoma are stuck with it. Sure, there have been a few moments wherein folks like Kirby and Ralph Shortey are in the spotlight for their antics, but they are a rarity in the comedy of errors that has become our media delivery mechanisms.<br />
<br />
Of course, it's just my opinion and I could be wrong...but I seriously doubt it.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBlcJmsbWj7AOqfoMihGYhGcf4cZn-GBW3QeWV6ngD517dTTRRytfhq_XjH6CEq0AKkmQDzWVpu0yaEIQ6X6KEfbA43GrfAVitKRHDNNUETTjXrlYfvNORS1jmKco1TrlH9ew4/s1600/missing-teeth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="158" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBlcJmsbWj7AOqfoMihGYhGcf4cZn-GBW3QeWV6ngD517dTTRRytfhq_XjH6CEq0AKkmQDzWVpu0yaEIQ6X6KEfbA43GrfAVitKRHDNNUETTjXrlYfvNORS1jmKco1TrlH9ew4/s320/missing-teeth.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Life can be horribly frustrating. It is even more frustrating when we set unrealistically high standards for ourselves and for those around us; fighting and scratching to be something we're not. On the other hand, some of us tend to set the bar so low that merely existing throughout the day without killing anyone is considered to be reason for celebration. Somewhere in the middle is where "normalcy" resides.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Or, so we have been told.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There are aspects of our lives where each and every one of us strive for what we perceive to be "perfection," and that can range from our hobbies, our work, our body image, or even relationships. In my 52 years on this planet, I've learned that there is no one on this planet who is perfect and no one will ever achieve perfection in the sense of human potential (not talking about spiritual perfection). There is no such thing as the perfect husband, the perfect wife, the perfect child, or so on. They are mythical creatures that have been conjured up by unrealistic standards set by our outside influences. Imagery of the perfect body, the perfect smile, the perfect family are all visages of bovine feces that we have integrated into our thinking and accepted as the standard by which we live. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Does that make sense? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDEBIUkuo4SbfSrXZpZMHXgVaJAGFqGXd8CDgvQQdjfKoX6GR86pIuwSnRCH_7r_o-Or_OhmIzCDFT-95RKXml1FrE9dSzl1tdBwPLjstwjrge7MNZouVkHDM-ePQjMEzYtU5q/s1600/funny.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDEBIUkuo4SbfSrXZpZMHXgVaJAGFqGXd8CDgvQQdjfKoX6GR86pIuwSnRCH_7r_o-Or_OhmIzCDFT-95RKXml1FrE9dSzl1tdBwPLjstwjrge7MNZouVkHDM-ePQjMEzYtU5q/s320/funny.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We should be joyously imperfect; celebrating our imperfection from a posture of humility and grace. Hell, I've been in and out of the hospital so many times over the last few months that I can't even remember most of the doctor's names or even why I was there. My health alone reminds me that I am imperfect and magnificently so. There have been days and nights when my pain level was so great that I literally wept and questioned myself about quality of life. My past, both good and bad, also point to the reality that I am far from ideal and it's time that I simply accept that fact and try to live the best I can each day. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I suppose the reason for this silly blog entry is to encourage the rest of the Imperfection Army out there that yes, we are in fact, perfectly imperfect and that's just fine. If we allow ourselves to be honest and embrace our inability to be without blemish, it makes relating to one another so much easier and more healthy. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Let's accept who we are and strive to be the best imperfect little creatures we can be. Let's be imperfect together and celebrate our differences that are worth celebrating and from there, let's change the world one house at a time. Let our imperfection be perfect in its reach to others and to all those within our sphere of influence. To hell with it. Let's just live and be happy where we are, how we are and being who we are.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Honorable Governor Mary Fallin gave her rousing address to members of the legislature and through media coverage; to the rest of the citizens in the state of Oklahoma. It should come as no surprise, however, that a lot of people in the state of Oklahoma are already aware of the problems we're facing and that includes what the media likes to call a "<i>budget shortfall</i>." </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The problem with the language being used by the media and by elected officials alike is that the budget in the state of Oklahoma is predicated on revenues. They are not "short" or "long," they simply are what they are and the legislature is tasked with maintaining government services within those revenue projections. Just like when citizens find themselves with less income, government has to make a few cuts here and there from previous budgets to make ends meet.<br />
<br />
Governor Fallin suggested an increase on fuel taxes and taxes on tobacco, but an elimination of the tax on groceries (good) and an elimination of corporate income tax (bad - see below). Governor Fallin is sounding more and more like former Governor Henry with each passing day. Increased taxes…that's supposed to be a Democrat thing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, here is a few suggestions from your humble little Gorilla as to revenues and the so-called "state of the state."</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first thing we have to do, in my opinion, is to deal with the elected official infrastructure as it exists right now. We have some of the highest paid part time legislators in the country and while our teacher pay is at the bottom of the barrel, legislators seem to be doing just fine, don't they? <b><u>One way to deal with this is to cut the legislative session in half and in so doing, pay legislators based on the average median income for their respective legislative districts</u></b> and break that down for the time that they are in session. For example, if the average median income for a legislative district is $35,000, we take that hourly rate and pay them hourly for the time they are in session. That alone would save hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2wr2foqMWc9c9Wsmv3wQI5wec87YGEq3CkK6wCOhy14WdTaSXLNizJmt6YivlnD0fQYDBsm5sSmJ-dWMz8R2Rg24Y7qQI_fKkiFSC4KP83EeuMxrk-c63UhBj2Xao5vG6pqck/s1600/9v756ahfx1rg1x2gmyewlcy84.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2wr2foqMWc9c9Wsmv3wQI5wec87YGEq3CkK6wCOhy14WdTaSXLNizJmt6YivlnD0fQYDBsm5sSmJ-dWMz8R2Rg24Y7qQI_fKkiFSC4KP83EeuMxrk-c63UhBj2Xao5vG6pqck/s200/9v756ahfx1rg1x2gmyewlcy84.gif" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The next thing on the list is to<b><u> cut the tax subsidies for energy companies and for the Oklahoma City Thunder as well</u></b>. Currently, the Thunder pay no income tax on salaries as part of an incentive authored by the legislature to lure them here so, it's time for the golden goose to start crapping out some golden eggs. In addition, wind energy subsidies in the state of Oklahoma are ridiculous and should be eliminated immediately. Oil and gas company tax incentives should be set aside as well. Not sexy, I know, but it is common sense and something that is desperately needed in Oklahoma. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lastly, absolutely <b><u>no taxes or fees should be increased until the first suggestions are implemented</u></b>. Fees and taxes could be raised in the event that the recipient government entity can provide an audited statement to justify the need for increased fees or taxes. The State Auditor should be involved in this process to ensure that there is integrity and consistency throughout.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When you have legislators who are trying to undermine the will of the people by fighting against state questions that were voted on and approved by the people of Oklahoma, that should give an indication as to where the problem lies under the methane gas filled dome. For a lot of these legislators, it is the best job that they will ever have and their thirst for power and hunger for acclaim drive them more than the desire to do what is right by the people of Oklahoma. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBC8OWJ_fUu_sQaJ3DBs-7_lgE5TsvbImbvm7EL0YhzhHcPuxbqgyf2ZydsAkT4H8lvSn4sQGGWyYMzCmMt5JU-mZUO1y4-yQW2om960gemV_Hk2tH81TsRG0tyCZ-V5TJvx0q/s1600/Fleet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBC8OWJ_fUu_sQaJ3DBs-7_lgE5TsvbImbvm7EL0YhzhHcPuxbqgyf2ZydsAkT4H8lvSn4sQGGWyYMzCmMt5JU-mZUO1y4-yQW2om960gemV_Hk2tH81TsRG0tyCZ-V5TJvx0q/s200/Fleet.jpg" width="157" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>This state needs a legislative enema. </i></b> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's time, friends. It's time to take a long, hard look at what has been happening and why it has been happening. We keep electing the same group of people, handled by the same group of consultants with the same talking points and we wonder why there isn't a real shift in the tide. This isn't an issue of Republican versus Democrat, Liberal versus Conservative; this is an issue of common sense versus lunacy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The state of the state is as it always has been until we vote for people with a passion for this state and our communities rather than an ego boost and a step on the career ladder.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

For a "Christian nation," there sure are a whole lot of really angry people running around. We are seeing that the <a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/protests-violence-prompts-uc-berkeley-cancel-milo-yiannopoulos-event-n715711" target="_blank">folks who beg for tolerance are less tolerant than they desire others to</a> be and we are seeing that folks who are supposed to be all about grace and mercy are really all about their perception of justice and retribution. Perhaps this is just how things go after an election but I have a very distinct feeling that there is something special in the air (or maybe in the water) and there will be some major changes soon. The storm clouds are forming on the horizon and a shift is about to take place…</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh57GQKpi25CxVZE8ustmKuZlg0eCCqjRaNIOwMtxKXfOjWXv67of_JDUiAt2j5VsGZwQMDFmkpisoaPrjQXac8Hw1xKxuM6L4l7vmkEIbIVRCM16IG5DVM79J0pk7BmJHWAteO/s1600/trump.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh57GQKpi25CxVZE8ustmKuZlg0eCCqjRaNIOwMtxKXfOjWXv67of_JDUiAt2j5VsGZwQMDFmkpisoaPrjQXac8Hw1xKxuM6L4l7vmkEIbIVRCM16IG5DVM79J0pk7BmJHWAteO/s200/trump.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
I suppose I still find it tough to believe that Donald Trump is our POTUS. I say this not for or against the man, but rather with curiosity as to how we got to this place in our history where we would have to choose between the two previous candidates. President Trump has already stirred the pot in Washington and without a doubt, he'll continue to do so until it's a murky, muddy mess. It's also amazing how many people absolutely hate the man and would rather turn violent and destroy property to show their disdain for him than they would to accept the fact that sometimes candidates we don't like much win races. Reasoned dialog is out the window, the tolerant ones have become immeasurably intolerant. And what really pisses people off is that Trump is actually keeping his promises that he made on the campaign trail. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fascinating. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgphP_sJKaI7IiQpvcBaAkOCg6Q5qwFtocnCnfb_RzNuGXw_JdofhlUn-DDovlSs8tDYZKbMBxZlRvvHYNVbXucYd224ykRg8tsUprQk9GLi3CVcL0x83jjJJ7QdMN4ESTr2bVC/s1600/Mike-Christian2x175.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgphP_sJKaI7IiQpvcBaAkOCg6Q5qwFtocnCnfb_RzNuGXw_JdofhlUn-DDovlSs8tDYZKbMBxZlRvvHYNVbXucYd224ykRg8tsUprQk9GLi3CVcL0x83jjJJ7QdMN4ESTr2bVC/s1600/Mike-Christian2x175.jpg" /></a></div>
On a local level, Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel has resigned after his November victory over Mike Christian. Christian has vowed to run again during the special election and unless another candidate steps up, he will probably win in a walk. Whetsel submitted his resignation letter and is ready to ride off into the sunset regardless of what kind of ghosts will follow him; the ghosts of fiscal mismanagement. This makes everyone wonder just why it was that Whetsel again wasted taxpayer dollars by causing this upcoming special election. It's just bloody weird. <br />
<br />
In other weird and wacky news, a state senator is apparently filing legislation to shut down the will of the voters on a couple state questions in the last election cycle. As I have said before and will again; we must never forget that for some elected officials, it is by far the best job they will ever have and their new-found power will corrupt their minds absolutely. They begin to think that they know what's better for their constituents than do the constituents who elected them. More Nanny State manure will certainly be coming our way, so wear your political waders.<br />
<br />
In my humble opinion, everyone needs to just calm down for a little while and try real hard to find logic in action. If we do, maybe there is still hope for us.<br />
<br />
Of course, those are just my opinions and I could be wrong…but I seriously doubt it.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-tKsfS5E3JQZAcuacWtsipiT_dt3WuGFF4lpcKC0E6-dT9PjJ4zwf4UHsMMYTVL5b6ktFca8Rq7Zg-pnzK0RxVVJygf80wySXwqtLBfaU5syrCcshl5GzS0h5BgfMLcKGpikv/s1600/election.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-tKsfS5E3JQZAcuacWtsipiT_dt3WuGFF4lpcKC0E6-dT9PjJ4zwf4UHsMMYTVL5b6ktFca8Rq7Zg-pnzK0RxVVJygf80wySXwqtLBfaU5syrCcshl5GzS0h5BgfMLcKGpikv/s320/election.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>The land was laid bare and the bodies of the dead littered the streets; streets that were covered in blood. In the distance, the screams and lamentations of women and children pierced the air and threatened to shatter eardrums. The smell of death and destruction permeated the air and created a weight and denseness to every breath. The fear and sadness surrounded every living thing that remained; it was as though any hope of life and joy had been sucked from the human existence and left in its wake was nothing but despair. The skies were permanently darkened, buildings and institutions that had stood the test of time were decimated, and survivors were fearful to even consider a future. </i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Okay, not really, but reading some of the post on social media after the election, one would think that the end of the world had come and stripped all Americans of their humanity and dignity. Hillary Clinton lost in her bid to be the country's first female president, defeated by one of the most disliked men in all of politics, Donald Trump, and far too many people are taking it personally. Trump was called every name in the book by the elitists on either side of the aisle and yet he triumphed and that really pisses people off. Even today, there are people who have lost their damned minds and are protesting in the streets! What in the hell is wrong with us?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This country will survive. We survived Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton. The country will survive Donald Trump and perhaps it will awaken the establishment douchebags to see their douchebaggery. Maybe, just maybe, terrorists will take us a little more seriously now as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On a local level, there were some serious surprises.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjCcwP-JgsTr6_9vrnDfwmxFcJX7IQbN7cjJAzP-LI_LVyZCdOy8k1YUWiqas_UjJmWJOWzpYEWSgDccCsBlot-9AB7_zNg-IQsgkHMYzKI9ctiyGa-UOAdfBQWtwY85crbwCU/s1600/Teachers+Mater.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjCcwP-JgsTr6_9vrnDfwmxFcJX7IQbN7cjJAzP-LI_LVyZCdOy8k1YUWiqas_UjJmWJOWzpYEWSgDccCsBlot-9AB7_zNg-IQsgkHMYzKI9ctiyGa-UOAdfBQWtwY85crbwCU/s320/Teachers+Mater.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ779:</b> While I believed that our teachers and children deserved better than this proposal, I really figured that it would pass. After all, they had Toby Keith in the ads...but I digress. It was believed that the initiative would pass, teachers would receive a pay raise and administrators would have s slush fund to play with, but no. It didn't happen. Teachers still need a pay raise and we need to do something better to fund education because the lottery wasn't the magic bullet, was it? Hopefully, the legislature can do something honest to address the issue and make sure that the administrators keep their filthy paws off of the money that will be for the classrooms and for teachers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ790: </b>I really thought that Oklahoma would pass this measure and not because it was the right thing to do, but because of our desire to mix God and government at every turn. Perhaps Pastor Paul Blair's loss in the primary was a harbinger of things to come that Oklahomans understand that we need to be careful what we ask for, because we might just get it. First, it would be spending money on the 10 Commandments (the ones we couldn't keep and so Christ had to die for us), then it would mean that Islam would get a monument, then Hinduism, and so on so forth. Tax dollars spent on one religious institution would mean, by necessity, an entitlement from all religious expressions. Kudos to the voters for shooting this one down.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Oklahoma County Sheriff: </b> Whetsel got another four years, defeating an aggressive and determined Republican Mike Christian. Whetsel will now face the County Commissioners about financial wrongdoing. This was a surprise. Even though Whetsel was a recognized name, he spent money on television and frankly, that was a big plus for his campaign because Christian was pretty much nowhere to be found. Maybe he spent too much on his consultants...but again, I digress.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yet, amid all this madness, here we stand. We still live in the greatest country on the planet to say or believe anything different is just silliness. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
We can do this. <br />
<br />
Of course, these are just my opinions and I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to one of the most bizarre times in American history and from an election standpoint, we are through the proverbial looking glass. People are confused, frustrated, and more than likely voting from a posture of fear of a candidate rather than love of the opponent. It's a horrific election cycle and we've seen scandal unlike any other time in our recent past. From the County Clerk disaster to the Sheriff to the now embattled Superintendent of Public Instruction, voters are pissed off and they will be going to the polls with a vengeance this year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really wish I could say that I have the answers or that I have a good grasp on all of the elections and ballot questions, but I really don't. I have opinions about them and I have been asked how I'm leaning, so, I'm sharing them with you.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ776 (Death Penalty) NO : </b> I'm voting no on this one for a number of reasons but let me give you two words - Joyce Gilchrist. We do not have the death penalty down to a science and we in Oklahoma don't have the best record of lawful convictions either. Executing one person who is innocent is one person too many. Yeah, I'm pro-life across the board; no inconsistencies with me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ777 (Right to Farm) NO:</b> We already have the right to farm in this state and unfortunately, the number of foreign firms buying up ag land in the state is increasing (not to mention the number of Texans buying up land in Oklahoma) and the last thing we want to do is tie the hands of regulators to bust someone's ass for ripping up the land and polluting it. But then again, the Corporation Commission hasn't really done much regarding the fracking earthquakes, have they?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ779 (Education Tax) NO: </b> Sorry, kids but the slush funds for administrators and the fact that it is a permanent tax turn me off on this one big-time. The teacher's unions have fought against administrative consolidation at their own peril and while teachers do deserve a pay raise, administrative slush funds aren't the way to make this happen. We deserve better, our kids deserve better, and our teachers sure as hell do. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ780 (Crime Bill) YES:</b> Simple drug possession (not intent to distribute) would be reclassified as misdemeanors rather than felonies. Law enforcement largely opposes this bill and I'm not really sure why. I saw we leap into the 20th century and reduce the amount of money we give to private prisons and use effective means as in SQ781.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ781 (Funding Drug Courts, etc.) YES: </b> Drug courts and rehabilitation programs do work and regardless of what you may think, prison overcrowding is a problem and it is a problem because we're locking up those who need treatment rather than hardcore jail time. It's the humane and common sense approach to some social problems. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG-H_Ev6EzvywX6C9j1iD5bJlcZR_wn0xpOEsopMTqimCIILJH2dS48EH9rmp1dkmR03l1WDW-3-C8BRmfB5BagxiXOMpTKmx1VcGTiualOdl0YYUjzdbod2R-U9vbxooLVz_6/s1600/100_1103.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG-H_Ev6EzvywX6C9j1iD5bJlcZR_wn0xpOEsopMTqimCIILJH2dS48EH9rmp1dkmR03l1WDW-3-C8BRmfB5BagxiXOMpTKmx1VcGTiualOdl0YYUjzdbod2R-U9vbxooLVz_6/s1600/100_1103.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ790 (Tax Dollars for Religion) NOPE: </b>I don't care what Lt. Governor Todd Lamb and others have said about this bill allowing ball players to "pray" before a game, this has unintended consequences that could do exactly the opposite of what the dominionists desire. If one religious expression is funded with tax dollars, all must be funded. If this bill does pass, it is going to be overturned in the Supreme Court and will no doubt cost Oklahoma taxpayers millions and millions of dollars to defend. As Jesus said, "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, but render unto God what is God's." Jesus suggested implied that the Apostle's should pay taxes. If the Church wants the government to fund them, they should pay taxes too. Vote NO on this silliness.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>SQ792 (Alcohol Sales Reform) YES): </b> This would allow grocers to sell booze and for liquor stores to sell mixers and the like. This is the most simple "yes" vote that we have had in a very long time. It's time to launch ourselves into the 21st century and vote yes on this one.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, there are the State Questions and no doubt I have pissed some of you off; particularly the supporters of 790. Sorry, but these are my opinions and my thoughts on this mess and if you open your mind and think for a change, you'll see that my choices make good common sense. Sure, it's all confusing, but we have to start voting a little smarter, don't we? We've seen what bad votes have gotten us in the past and now is the time for a renewed mind.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Those are my opinions and I could be wrong, but you would be wrong in saying that I'm wrong.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a little while, so I thought I'd better catch up and provide a little color commentary to the already jaded political and social landscape. It's what you expect from me, so I choose not to disappoint. Let's get after it, shall we?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>POTUS:</b> What a train wreck. How in the world we ended up with these two candidates is something that OU Political Science Professor Keith Gaddie will be writing about long into the future, but it befuddles the rest of us. The Trump Train exists, in my opinion, as a rebellion move against the establishment of the GOP that has been virtually indistinguishable from the mainstream of the Democratic Party over the last decade. Fortunately, we have three branches of government so two out of three will have to get us through the next four years. I truly have no pony in this race at all and it looks like I may have to vote for the Libertarian just so I can preserve what is left of my tattered soul. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1VlBp0kde1Avj_6-40FqeSiSS2NflgzaTDdIhyphenhyphentsRSb3MfeFGGFOcGNfc2aBVlokTVLifqTT0ZnF8gSuJEVVhz5Nvn16PfRkLZQcHUDq_yCh0GEPPhbQ0MMg2p263KRHjPhP8/s1600/mike+christian.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1VlBp0kde1Avj_6-40FqeSiSS2NflgzaTDdIhyphenhyphentsRSb3MfeFGGFOcGNfc2aBVlokTVLifqTT0ZnF8gSuJEVVhz5Nvn16PfRkLZQcHUDq_yCh0GEPPhbQ0MMg2p263KRHjPhP8/s320/mike+christian.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Oklahoma County Sheriff:</b> This has turned into a barn-burner of a race, hasn't it? The State Auditor released findings that basically showed that incumbent Democrat Sheriff John Whetsel has not been so adept at handling financial issues. Of course, most of us with any functioning brain cells whatsoever have seen the disaster that is the Oklahoma County Jail; but at least we don't have to deal with Joyce Gilchrist any longer. But I digress... Representative Mike Christian is the GOP hopeful for the race and I've known Mike for a long time; we used to hunt and consume adult beverages together "back in the day." I think I may even have some film from my old TV show with Mike on a hunt with us. He has survived the turmoil of the <a href="http://kfor.com/2013/12/05/former-lawmaker-debbe-leftwich-guilty-of-bribery-but-avoids-trial/" target="_blank">Randy Terrill/Debbe Leftwich</a> disaster that sent Terrill to jail. Now, he is gunning for the Sheriff's badge. This will be a close nail-biter of a race to watch and it's anyone's guess as to who will win this one. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZbw0FWnDJV7hDr-J_GA7NFjVkCRGboXwG9ncnz1RZuvxiYIrh7DK5mV6j0X9dy6sW0IAeNCFatSLAKtFZsqJmXJFP6U7N8c0yfj-6Qe1eCX3mX1bcbp4N8K50oJ4gjdtA6Pse/s1600/Hooten-desk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="137" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZbw0FWnDJV7hDr-J_GA7NFjVkCRGboXwG9ncnz1RZuvxiYIrh7DK5mV6j0X9dy6sW0IAeNCFatSLAKtFZsqJmXJFP6U7N8c0yfj-6Qe1eCX3mX1bcbp4N8K50oJ4gjdtA6Pse/s320/Hooten-desk.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Oklahoma County Clerk:</b> David Hooten surprised everyone and found himself in a runoff with Carolyn Caudill and then he defeated her in the runoff. Embattled former <a href="http://www.news9.com/story/7784886/state-house-speaker-cargill-resigns" target="_blank">Speaker of the House, Lance Cargill, helped run the campaign</a> and it is a pretty significant one to win. There is a lot of taxpayer dollars involved in that office and a whole lot more than one would suspect. Garnering the endorsements of two previous governor's, David Hooten will be facing the perennial Libertarian candidate, Chris Powell. Hooten will run away with this race and soundly defeat Powell. What will be interesting to watch, however, will be who Hooten brings into the County Clerk's office to work with him. Who will be his Chief Deputy? That pick will set the stage for either reform, or more of the same. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As far as the Congressional races go, expect the incumbents to win easily. The Oklahoma Congressional Delegation will remain in the grasp of the GOP as will House and Senate seats in the Oklahoma Legislature.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What a world in which we live. God help us.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, these are just my opinions and I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYWvbBz3UgWX4rG6hYQbW1OT0BNFDDcXAi6jd5g_biaqAXBdbHFN-3EcCNnelfdrEL3ob_yAJQhwixbX5lO6nRNghj10ZWOMahBVhP-K_XGQbznWAsaRASp0EXwJ-6_M8Rtuxa/s1600/i-hate-politics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="116" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYWvbBz3UgWX4rG6hYQbW1OT0BNFDDcXAi6jd5g_biaqAXBdbHFN-3EcCNnelfdrEL3ob_yAJQhwixbX5lO6nRNghj10ZWOMahBVhP-K_XGQbznWAsaRASp0EXwJ-6_M8Rtuxa/s200/i-hate-politics.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sometimes, I really hate politics. The underhanded nature of things, the back room deals, the secret support of questionable candidates, the cover-ups, and the big-mouthed blathering of pundits (myself included) make the process a messy, disgusting aspect of American life but I can't seem to back away from it. Maybe it is just a part of who I am, or maybe it's my innate desire to stir things up that keep me interested and as someone who likes history, it's fun to watch it repeat itself. While a free electorate is what our forefathers intended, it's kind of become something altogether different, hasn't it? It's just a big pile of rhetorical goo and we have to choose between candidates whom we think will do the least amount of damage rather than the most good for the country. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgphP_sJKaI7IiQpvcBaAkOCg6Q5qwFtocnCnfb_RzNuGXw_JdofhlUn-DDovlSs8tDYZKbMBxZlRvvHYNVbXucYd224ykRg8tsUprQk9GLi3CVcL0x83jjJJ7QdMN4ESTr2bVC/s1600/Mike-Christian2x175.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgphP_sJKaI7IiQpvcBaAkOCg6Q5qwFtocnCnfb_RzNuGXw_JdofhlUn-DDovlSs8tDYZKbMBxZlRvvHYNVbXucYd224ykRg8tsUprQk9GLi3CVcL0x83jjJJ7QdMN4ESTr2bVC/s200/Mike-Christian2x175.jpg" width="133" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On a local level, we have a battle for County Sheriff that looks pretty interesting, but more than likely, it will turn out to be a tempest in a teapot. The incumbent Sheriff, John Whetsel, is looking to win re-election with ease primarily because his opponent hasn't defined himself or worked to change the impressions of days past. Mike Christian is a State Rep who was embroiled in the controversy that saw former Representative Randy Terrill spend time behind bars. Christian was rumored to have testified against Terrill to save his own hiney, and that's what the vast majority of the public can remember about him. He doesn't have any substantial legislation that changed lives in Oklahoma, he hasn't cured cancer, and he has failed to get his message out. Mike is a good guy, but his consultants haven't done him any favors. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another race is that of the County Clerk. Carolyn Caudill was defeated in the Republican primary by David Hooten; a man best known for his musical abilities and meat sauces available in many area grocery stores. He will face Libertarian Chris Powell who hasn't really put forth too much effort in the campaign. Hooten will win this one in a walk and then he and his consultant <a href="http://newsok.com/article/3824432" target="_blank">Lance Cargill</a> (<a href="http://www.news9.com/story/7784886/state-house-speaker-cargill-resigns" target="_blank">yes, that Lance</a>) will find themselves in strange territory in Oklahoma County government. But then again, the voters could surprise us all and vote for Powell. Probably not, but maybe.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

On a personal note, if y'all are available, stop by Bourbon Street Saturday night and listen to the reorganized Signal 8 Band. We kick off the party at 9pm and play until the bartender throws us out or tells us to shut up. Katie, Cal, Merv, and myself invite you to take a break from politics, a break from the madness that is every day life and slip away to music mayhem with us. We'll be playing some of your favorite classic rock tunes as well as a couple originals that Katie wrote herself. In other words, you will have a blast and we hope to see you there. </div>

The Tuesday runoff election was one of the most entertaining to watch in a very long time. While the voter turnout stank to high heaven, the results were surprising to say the least. It's sad to see so few people heading to the polls but given the political climate, we should expect as much. Campaigns have become mud slinging propaganda-fests that are void of truth and reality and most often filled to overflowing in lies and deceit. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgucb6kAxIvRStfN5hT0iC-mqd2cAERPSjGTW0n1KpLji-HL3CTJYTHq_Mj70jrjkXBD4dm_KcPPnkkWPvC5GQdBpyLmORtK6h-qC9qC0I43gGM0f5LscLyEZlOnf1X1osMI2dx/s1600/hooten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgucb6kAxIvRStfN5hT0iC-mqd2cAERPSjGTW0n1KpLji-HL3CTJYTHq_Mj70jrjkXBD4dm_KcPPnkkWPvC5GQdBpyLmORtK6h-qC9qC0I43gGM0f5LscLyEZlOnf1X1osMI2dx/s200/hooten.jpg" width="118" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The 20-year incumbent in the County Clerk's office was unseated by a business owner who is best known for his trumpet and not for his prowess in political affairs. Not only was Caudill defeated, but David Hooten beat her with an almost 2-to-1 ratio. Caudill's office has been plagued with problems for many years; hell, I remember pointing out problems with her office back when I was the afternoon drive host on WKY. There were those who thought I was being too mean, but it turns out that I was spot on in my analysis. Caudill will, of course, get to take her retirement and ride off into the sunset but she will be riding out of town on a hog rather than a steed. Hooten will take over in January and he will have his hands full. Not saying that the County Clerk post is the most difficult and complex in all of County government, but it is certainly one of serious responsibility and sitting on the Budget Board to allocate dollars to and fro can be a daunting task. Will he rubber-stamp the desires of the senior members of the Board or will he trumpet reform and accountability (see what I did there)?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Former State Representative Mike Reynolds ran for Cleveland County Court Clerk and was defeated by almost 1,000 votes by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ElectMarilynWilliams2016/" target="_blank">Marilyn Williams</a>. Reynolds was known for his "smaller government" stances while in the House of Representatives. There were plenty Republicans in Cleveland County who were shocked that Reynolds lost to Williams and they will probably analyze that race for many weeks to come. Williams went after Reynolds on her Facebook page calling him a "career politician," which is terribly ironic because Reynolds advocated for smaller government; except where he decides to run apparently. No doubt we'll see Reynolds again somewhere because he is very active in the GOP and rather enjoys politics. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_vdRiYo8VZ5hwqyAsatNBeWoYEU4joFGVuscGjKabXsRFFYQdbO5cwGUU5kvTaYkp8aQe0mcbQdsW61vyoZkZMhzhcXnvWdHXL1w407rT1LQ9x-TCfRosb-aB-C6HOjeA6zHb/s1600/pugh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_vdRiYo8VZ5hwqyAsatNBeWoYEU4joFGVuscGjKabXsRFFYQdbO5cwGUU5kvTaYkp8aQe0mcbQdsW61vyoZkZMhzhcXnvWdHXL1w407rT1LQ9x-TCfRosb-aB-C6HOjeA6zHb/s320/pugh.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The biggest and most fascinating race was Senate District 41 in Edmond where Air Force pilot Adam Pugh faced the Goliath that is the former football player-turned-pastor, Paul Blair. Blair racked up a ton of endorsements including those from members of the State House and the former "Dr. No" of Congress, Tom Coburn. In the past, an endorsement from Coburn almost guaranteed a victory. Blair even received the endorsement of Congressman Steve Russell who was involved in the capture of Saddam Hussein! Blair also picked up the endorsement of former Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane and current Oklahoma County Democrat District Attorney David Prater. Neither endorsement carried enough weight to push Blair beyond the relative newcomer, Adam Pugh. Somehow, Pugh became the David of this David and Goliath match up and came out on top. </div>

Bad news, negative news, and depressing news have dominated this week and it has worn me slick. Every now and again, we just need positive things to say to each other and to read about. Today, I am doing my level best to provide something a little different to read and maybe put a smile on your face. Let's start with police shootings...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Shootings: </b> The police officers killed in cold blood this last week were and are being memorialized in their communities and it is right that they be honored. As a result of the shooting, those communities have largely rallied their support for the families of the officers and while their deaths are tragic and deplorable, people are starting to see just how dangerous the work of law enforcement can be and hopefully, are seeing how important a part of our society they are. I know that I make sure that I stop and thank them whenever I see them for putting their lives on the line every day for people like you and me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>RNC:</b> Yes, it has been a circus and a series of mistakes and silly behavior, but we had the opportunity to meet the Trump family and get to know them just a little better. So far, Donald's son has stolen the show and won the hearts of the GOP faithful. See? That's good news! Oklahoma's Governor Mary Fallin will also get a chance to shine for a few minutes before The Donald's speech tomorrow evening as well, and let's face it; our Governor is a media darling. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>New 9 Street View (or something): </b> News 9 was showing off their new digital gadgetry for their helicopter today and to be honest, it's pretty cool. As the camera man pans across the land, the streets and businesses show up superimposed on the area itself. Imagine a see-through Google map overlay of the terrain and then, you will understand. It is a big deal for law enforcement and for first responders who are chasing a bag guy, that's for sure It is also going to come in handy on their storm chasing weather moments. Plus, Oklahoma City is the first city to have such wizardry. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Maybe I'm getting old or sentimental, but like the song goes, "we're all in this together," and political party doesn't matter where lives are at stake. We all know better. Let me leave you with this:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="275" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gbrbUfYSt0E" width="550"></iframe>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It could always be worse.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6LTGdaUbbsOZC3lFGE_w52l17IjkijQW7KAftBq8oVFJKr8TWuNxmUt9A9yDahEc1UpY_zFHjPg4LMfO5Ypb8pfd80f5ObLMtTxT2obc7s7BA4M1Yg9RgbATTeTyHO3JkmJ5r/s1600/melania-trump-rnc-speech.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="217" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6LTGdaUbbsOZC3lFGE_w52l17IjkijQW7KAftBq8oVFJKr8TWuNxmUt9A9yDahEc1UpY_zFHjPg4LMfO5Ypb8pfd80f5ObLMtTxT2obc7s7BA4M1Yg9RgbATTeTyHO3JkmJ5r/s320/melania-trump-rnc-speech.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
The entertainment level at the GOP Convention in Cleveland may take the title of "greatest show on earth" soon because the hits and misses just keep coming. Whether it be the Colorado delegates stomping their feet and marching out of the Conventional Hall like a bunch of dope-smoking weenies, you have the doggone POTUS candidate's wife using Michelle Obama's speech! What a bloody train wreck it has been and we've only just begun! It is hilarious and tragically sad at the same time. </div>
<div class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">
It's insanity. It's as thought the whole of the convention has been turned over to the children who are busy playing with their crayons and wetting their pants.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There is even a contingent who are staying away from the convention, headed up by the ever-pathetic John Kasich from Ohio who is by far the most liberal Republican to come of out the Republican Party in the last two decades. Key Senators are avoiding the convention and it simply makes them look like petulant children who can't stand the heat and only proves that the people did the right thing by not voting for them at the polls (particularly Kasich).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And speaking of foot-stomping points of interest...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjafUApGwJiK3zyTOoWnn-_zobSkwuSx43tVW53UQjlDVmVusk29ddr37bDnRkSzxDRcA6Mxynqas2fY1afVqOcb8p5XqGDKsixnLgT8XQApvSC48u-NriW33QiAQ-s1j0QrUs4/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjafUApGwJiK3zyTOoWnn-_zobSkwuSx43tVW53UQjlDVmVusk29ddr37bDnRkSzxDRcA6Mxynqas2fY1afVqOcb8p5XqGDKsixnLgT8XQApvSC48u-NriW33QiAQ-s1j0QrUs4/s320/image.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
State Senator wanna-be Paul Blair, who happens to also be the pastor of one of Edmond's more active Baptist churches had a meeting/press <a href="http://www.news9.com/story/32474159/state-senate-candidate-accuses-opponent-of-slander" target="_blank">conference where announced that his opponent had slandered him because of a photoshopped picture of the Pastor Blair</a>. Well, first, he's a public figure and as a result is open to be lampooned predicated on the 1st Amendment of the Constitution that he claims to have read and so vehemently supports. Second, It is highly doubtful that his opponent has the ability to use Photoshop itself but rather an opponent of the former football player turned pastor turned candidate for State Senator. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
From the Oklahoman: </div>
<blockquote>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>Blair said Pugh’s supporters have also posted on social media that he has ties to Kansas’ Westboro Baptist Church. </i></span> </blockquote>
<blockquote>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i></i></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>“These kind of baseless vile accusations can destroy a man’s reputation forever. And can destroy the reputation of a church forever,” Blair said Monday afternoon from the fourth floor press room inside the Oklahoma state Capitol. </i></span></blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pastor Blair had for himself quite the all-star lineup backing him; he had Congressman Steve Russell, term-limited House Rep Kevin Calvey, and other supporters by his side when he proclaimed that his opponent had slandered him. The Scripture is clear about issues between brothers that they are supposed to take issues to one another in private and then if it isn't resolved, kick it up a notch. Seems to me that Blair ignored the very Scriptures he preaches from. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD9VLu-JA3xUOyl5ihW3xrXLwGQ2S_d2VhztQWm4blLZHEq9s8YLVPR0ITu11R2SPIBCXCmYkM_fKMPn1LSaGIZI2ac14cx97QGXvq-8TRl4gUlo_ufVCWNDU9Pqziqx3QfsVl/s1600/hqdefault.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD9VLu-JA3xUOyl5ihW3xrXLwGQ2S_d2VhztQWm4blLZHEq9s8YLVPR0ITu11R2SPIBCXCmYkM_fKMPn1LSaGIZI2ac14cx97QGXvq-8TRl4gUlo_ufVCWNDU9Pqziqx3QfsVl/s320/hqdefault.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
But I could be wrong. One of the "tricks" in talk radio is to have someone known to the host call in to the show to disagree and to so with tenacity. The aggregate result is that the loyal listeners circle the wagons and call in to support the talk show host. Blair would never do that with his campaign, would he? I don't think so. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Blair doth protest too much, methinks. You have to ask yourself why a former football player who heard the "call from God" to be in ministry now thinks the time has come to move to the realm of elected office. From what I recall about the New Testament,<a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+23&version=KJV" target="_blank"> Matthew 23 was pretty clear about what Jesus thought of the religious/political leaders of his day</a>. Thought the role of the Church was to make disciples, care for the sick, the elderly, the poor, the widows...not push for voters. And he's talking about "slander?" What? He wants to be a State Senator but the pastor seems to have thinner skin than when he played football.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But what do I know?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT6nOB3E3cD7qwGelW3_w2pRzkg6VO25nFCyTzD3-VZs9g7XOe22u52JwYEVjuw-DL0ghIfk9HKl68cLCG4U5D1IzYzsakxELv6EDAN60kljwoRZlTTy7MHZUEEgDGIhvuHTgh/s1600/David_Hooten.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT6nOB3E3cD7qwGelW3_w2pRzkg6VO25nFCyTzD3-VZs9g7XOe22u52JwYEVjuw-DL0ghIfk9HKl68cLCG4U5D1IzYzsakxELv6EDAN60kljwoRZlTTy7MHZUEEgDGIhvuHTgh/s200/David_Hooten.jpg" width="162" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On another local runoff front, things have been pretty quiet in the Oklahoma County Clerk race. The embattled incumbent of about a hundred years, Carolynn Caudill, <a href="http://hootenforclerk.com/" target="_blank">will be facing trumpet-player and musician to the elected elite, David B. Hooten</a>. Hooten ran for the State Senate a couple years back and lost and now he found himself in a runoff with seasoned campaigner, Carolynn Caudill. If Hooten thinks that she's just going to lay down and do nothing, he has a few things to learn about the incumbent County Clerk and her supporters who are already elected down at the County. This is not going to be a walk in the park for the newcomer, but the talk is that he has former Speaker of the House Lance Cargill running his campaign. This one has the potential to be an awesome race or fizzle and be a dud. Wooten tends to be a bit soft-spoken, but giving credit where credit is due, the musician has gained the endorsements of former Governor Frank Keating and Governor Mary Fallin which means he must be pretty tough. Hooten has the chance to blow Caudill out of the water, but he is going to have to start sounding his horn (see what I did there?).care </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Of course, my opinions don't really amount to much these days and I've been horribly wrong in the past.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The whole political climate right now is very sad and frightening for the GOP; or at least it should be. The future of the party depends on its ability to be more inclusive, to recruit more women to run for office, and to have more people of color run and actually receive the support of their respective party offices. So far, we're coming off like a bunch of xenophobic, redneck, racist dingleberries who are completely out of touch with culture. Something has to be done and it isn't going to come from plagiarism nor will it come from pastors who are jumping the pulpit to run for public office. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These are just my opinions and I could be wrong, but, in this case it is highly unlikely.</div>
